Just wondering if anyone knows how the Thompson is fishing. Also, how is the river level. Planning a trip there in the middle of July.

Also, can anyone direct me to an accurate hatch chart/guide for July on this river?

Any help is much appreciated.

What color body on the stims and stones???? Also, from what I remember, Thompson fish like their flies bigger...so is 6 to big on the stones??

I havent fished it myself but people I know tell me that they use grasshopper patterns with great success.

I tie all my Thompson Stone Nymphs on sizes 6 & 4 1x long mustad atlantic salmon hooks, in tan, brown, & black. For Hoppers and Stimulators, mustad atlantic salmon dry fly hooks in size 6 & 4 1x long again. For your Hoppers you want yellow and tan. For Stimulators black, yellow, & sandy brown. Size 8 Tom Thumb work well too, when tied with a red body. Also Elk Hair Caddis with yellow, green, & sandy brown bodies, is sizes 6 & 4. Make double sure your dries are good floaters. I recomend using closed cell foam for your bodies. As for the river it is high but fishable and dropping. Was up that way last weekend for a wedding and I liked what I saw, so I will be flogging it fro the long weekend.

Well I gave it a go Saturday evening at Gold Pan. After two hours I was drawing a blank; so were the other four anglers I saw there. All my old standbys weren't working so I decieded to try an Elk Haired Caddis. Two casts and whack a solid 2lber after which I managed a two more hitts before darkness shut me out. Sunday evening I took my youngest daughter (age 9), to the run just above the old bridge and coached here through landing her first fly caught Thompson River Rainbow (1.5). She is sold on the sport now. Landed three more on red bodied Tom Thumb before the mosquitos chased us off the river.

How did the river look? Is it coming down? My buddy just purchased a 9ft 4inch Zodiac and we are going to put his 8hp motor on it and take it with us when we come up mid-July.

Fished it last weekend both days and managed to coax a few out of the usual runs around Spences Bridge. On sturday there was quite a serious green stonefly hatch as well as a huge caddis hatch going on. I also got quite a few aggresive rises to a flying ant pattern. Water was up but clarity was very good. Very very few people on the river. Should be fishing even better this weekend, hope whoever gets up there enjoys it...

I got up there for a few days. Fished Spences Bridge area, Ashcroft, Walachin. Incredible numbers of caddis. Fished an orange body stimulator and big stone nymph with some success. The river is still high, but had no trouble finding holding water.
