You can try the Kalamalka Fly Fishers Club. They have several decent how to tie articles on their URL as well.

never tried it, but check out mission creek. flows right through town and is a decent sized flow. I think there are lots of tubers during the day, so early AM would be best...check the regs too before heading out.

Thats one possibly however you'll have to head into Joe Rich area before you can hit it. There is no fishing allowed below the waterfall near Layer Cake mountain. I would personally suggest the Kettle river north of Westbridge after high water (mid june). There is also the Similkameen around Keremeos and the Shuswap around Lumby (where the possibility of salmon fishing arises). Also there is Belgo creek up around Philpott FSr that I'm sure would be worth a try.

I know of a great deal of secluded lakes within an hour and a half of Kelowna worth fly fishing, if you want a few tips send me a pm.
thanks for all the info, ill look all those up. what a pm?

A "private message", just a personal communication between yourself and someone else on the forums. Good for keeping secrets secret! Or at least out of general public knowledge.

To send one click on someone's name or user avatar (that's the picture underneath their name), then in the next window click "send a private message".
I was hoping one of you might be able to suggest something in the kelowna area.... i'm sitting in a hotel in westbank er, west kelowna with a flyrod that i've used once and a wife getting ready for the day.... lol

What i would like to find is a creek or river or lake that's not TOO far away that i could fish from shore while the wife suntans or reads or whatever.... i'm very new to flyfishing and don't know the area - we're here until thurs.... mostly looking for somewhere to practice i guess, with the possibiliity of catching something fun while doing it!

Thanks in advance!
try some poppers in shannon lake. largemouth in there.
I assume you're shore casting so that limits you. That being said if you're on the Westside then you're close to Trepanier creek in Peachland. Trepanier creek flows into Okanagan Lake at a very nice beachy area. I don't know how busy it gets in terms of swimmers but if you headed out there early in the morning you'd probably get a few fishable hours in and have a good chance of catching something.

If you're looking for something a little different there is Shannon Lake, where you can catch bass.

On the Kelowna side, and if you want to rent a boat there's a ton of resorts. Postill, Beaver (swalwell), Dee, Oyama. Lots of options. Boats average about $80 for a days rent.

Happy to help, drop a line or send me a pm if you want a little more advice.
Junkie's right.

There are a lot of other options on the Westside as well, but Trepanier is a good bet. You can wade out as well, and there's not a lot of swimmers to crowd you and scare away the fish.

Try some sculpin, leech or minnow patterns and you should have some luck. The fish can get big, so be ready for a decent strike.
