Howdy, completely due to my own stupidity and impatience I'll admit, I broke my 9' 8wt dragonfly fly rod. I broke it in the last section, about 2/3rds down from the tip, so it is effectively a 8' or so rod now. I've glued a new eye to the end and I am wondering: are there any options for fishing this rod as a non-fly rod?

Would it be possible to mount a center pin reel to this and use it to fling steelhead floats? Or fill a sparse spool with mono-filament and use it for trolling? Would loosening the drag on a fly reel and "casting" it like a bait caster damage the reel?

Any suggestions would be great. I'd love to be able to turn this mistake into a sparse rod instead of trash, forever keeping it as a reminder of my stupidity.
