Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0900-RECREATIONAL- SALMON - Region 2 - Chehalis River - Revised Fishing Boundary

Effective at 00:01 hours on Friday, November 6, 2009 until further notice and
pursuant to section 37(4) of the Fishery (General) Regulations, a revised
fishing boundary will be established on the Chehalis River at the outlet from
the Chehalis River Hatchery.

The boundary has been revised and will be identified with “No Fishing” boundary
signs 100 meters downstream from the hatchery outlet. The revised boundary is
consistent with other Government facilities where fishing is not allowed within
a 100 meter radius of hatchery outlets or other collection facilities in order
to protect returning salmon and trout.

This action is the result of flood events which has led to the Chehalis River
mainstem establishing a new channel on the east side of the flood plain which
has isolated flow from the hatchery. The new watercourse is an extension of the
hatchery outlet which had been previously posted by boundary signs at the
confluence of the outlet and the mainstem when the river flowed in its original
location.

Notes:

The aggregate daily limit for all species of Pacific Salmon (other than
kokanee) from tidal and non-tidal waters combined is four (4).

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia. This includes all species of fish in the Fraser
River.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the voluntary Salmon Sport Head
Recovery program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped
Chinook and coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical
information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head
Recovery Program at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

Did you witness suspicious fishing activity or a violation? If so, please call
the Fisheries and Ocean Canada 24-hour toll free Observe, Record, Report line
at (800) 465-4336.

For the 24 hour recorded opening and closure line, call toll free at (866) 431-
