If I could only fish one fly for winter steelhead, this would be it - my go to, confidence fly. Relatively fast to tie, easy to find materials and works well big or small, sparse or full. Coho and pinks will even take it.
Thread - Black
Tail - Orange pheasant tips
Tag - Orange floss over tinsel
Body - Gold tinsel with wide silver oval rib
Wing - Mixed pink and orange polar bear with white polar bear topper. Pull out the "fluff" to use later, and just use the long guard hairs.
Throat - Polar bear "fluff" left over from the wing.
Effective from size 6 up to 3/0.
