| Description: |
The race is on to conserve what remains of B.C.'s magnificent ancient forests, wildlife and marine ecosystems. Our unique wild places are threatened by clear-cut logging, global warming, oil tanker traffic, unscrupulous extraction of resources like coalbed methane, pipelines, pollution and unbridled development.
We live in a province so dazzling that our vehicle license plates call it "Beautiful BC" and "The Best Place on Earth". Yet more than one half of BC's ancient forests have vanished, and only a small percentage of those that remain are legally protected. Oceans and rivers are in peril. We orcastake great pride in BC's rare biodiversity, yet we're home to more endangered species than any other Canadian province or territory. As global warming puts new pressures on surviving wild girlspaces, Sierra Club BC's role as an environmental watchdog and conservation champion is more vital than ever. |
