Time to say hello as I had registered a little while ago after finding the site after moving to Kamloops a couple months ago. I Moved from Calgary after spending the last 9 years there. I had only discovered the Bow River after finishing University and had about 4 good years on the Bow and the flowing waters to the southwest of that city.
I am excited to start fishing stillwaters again. I Grew up in the Yukon fishing with my dad. I started flyfishing for grayling at around 12 and have preferred the method since. As a kid we spent times on the lakes trolling for lakers and flyfishing creek mouths for grayling.
When we moved further north, away from the lakes, fishing moved to the backburner until I finished school and found the Bow River and other southern alberta streams. It has come full circle as now I am considering looking for a boat so I can take my own kids out on the lakes around Kamloops.
I am also looking to figure out the Thompson River to quench my thirst for moving water that I acquired from grayling streams up north and the trout waters of alberta.
I also have some unfinished business with this river...as a 12/13 year old I was skunked on the Thompson for two consecutive years on the way to hockey school/summer vacation in Pentiction. I caught only one sucker type fish on the fly when fishing at Juniper Beach, where we stayed two years in a row. To this day, I remember rising fish and crickets/grasshoppers singing through the night...but no trout.
I have checked the site periodically and expect that stillwater section to pick up in the next month or so.. I figure I should contribute a bit as I will be looking for pointers come April 1. I am also into photography and hope to share some pics.
Greetings,
Sean Felker.
