    Default Books

    Anybody doing any reading lately?
I love to read almost anything fishing, hunting outdoor related.
Right now I am almost finished John Shewey's Steelhead Flies.
I have to say one of the best how to tieing books I have come across.
The photos are inredible, and the amount of history packed in there is excellant.
This will also put your learning curve ahead a few years in your quest to tie the perfect bug.
    Highly recommended.

I have been reading T.E Pryce Tannatt's book How to dress salmon flies, It's amazing that they did those flies back then without a vice (nimble fingers) I am also reading The complete angler by Izaak Walton, My wife say's i am not allowed to read any more until I finish my power engineering course. I have about 40 fishing books that I have collected some new some vintage that I want to read but some that I would like to have are too expensive or too hard to find,
A friend sent this web adress to me and it has some fantastic books on it that you can read. If you have trouble with this adress give me a shout and i will email it too you.

Like you Fred, I've almost always got my nose in a book of some sort. Right now I'm reading the second book in a series about Genghis Khan titled " Lords of the Bow" by Conn Iggulden. My fishing book of choice lately has been "A Passion for Steelhead" by Dec Hogan. My fly fishing library is quite extensive, containing the works of many authors, such as Lingren, Coombs, Shewey, Veverka, Radedcich, Shaw, Helvie, Rowley, Morris and Chan and the aforementioned Hogan.
For step by step instruction with photos, three books come to mind. As you have already stated one would be "Steelhead Flies" by John Shewey. Another would be Shewey's "Spey Flies and Dee Flies - Their History And Construction" and the third is Veverka's "Spey Flies and How To Tie Them".
Deke Meyers book " Advanced Fly Fishing For Steelhead" is a very good read and for pure reading enjoyment anything by Roderick Haig-Brown fits the bill.

    Default calgon, take me away!

I recently finished Robert Travers classic " Trout Madness "
    Excellant
John Geirich is another author that I really enjoy. I usually can't put his books down once I start.
I am also part way through a history of the Gang Ranch.

I just recieved a signed, first edition, hardcover copy of Cordes and Kaufmann's " Lake Fishing With A Fly ".
I already have this book but what good timing. This is, as far as I am concerned, the best book on the subject.
I recall being on Corbett Lake before it was pay to play years ago. There were a few Callabaetis coming off,not enough to interest the fish, but it got me thinking about that chapter in the book I had just read.
I pulled out one of the Timberline nymphs I had tied up a couple of weeks earlier and tied it on. This,of course, was one of the reccomended flies from the book.
    I cast it out,let it sink,twitch,figure eight Bamm,fish on.
This went on for a couple of hours.
The hatch never really materialized, but the fish were gorging on the pre emergent nymphs.
This is not the only time I have had a good experience fishing as a direct result of reading a good book on my favourite subject.
So if I keep reading about Tarpon I should catch one, right?

    I love McManus.
My wife and I used to have some audio tapes that we would listen to with the girls on our trips. We would L.O.A.O. all the way to the lake.

You might find some of the audio on a torrent site like seedpeer.
