    Default Stream Stewards

This is in response to Patches taking action for his local streams.
I belong to The Yorkson Watershed Stewardship Group.
This is an easy going informal type of group.
But we have been instrumental in opening up critical coho habitat for our Wild coho. This is an urban creek with runs of coho, chum and cutties. There were steelies in the past, but they haven't been documented for decades.
In short, get involved with your local stewardship group and you WILL make a difference.
Hard to believe that shoving a few willow switches in the bank can make you feel so good 5 years later as you drive by at 60km and see the stand that you planted is holding the bank together, creating holding/rearing habitat and helping to keep the water cool and put food in the fishes mouth.
There is also work we do with the local school and water week etc. etc.
All this for only one evening a month, and the occasional saturday morning.
We as anglers owe at least this to the resource and our kids.

where do we go to sign up for something like that, it sounds like a good way to give back to the enviroment.

    Default Stewardship Groups

If you call your local municipal government they should be able to help you.
I will try and find some links.

    Default province over the feds

there are many groups and clubs to get started with .i like to do my own thing some times to avoid politics .but when you want to do things in or near a creek . always get the paper work to remove, put in,or move within a stream any habitat or habitat altering objects .eg..rocks ,logs, downed trees . i like to contact the Provence .i like to protect trout and their habitat, and in most cases that means salmon habitat as well....there are some good D.F.O people out there but.....not many have any idea and working with the feds has so much politics .. in the 70S D.F.O. west was 30-50 biologists. now there are 7000 i think..employed D.F.O people in Ottawa alone.....?......there is no ocean or salmon in Ottawa ? they payed over 70 million to fish farmers.....to get going and research. Ill stick to the province ! they have an interest in what happens here and our resources .some time you need to push make calls and right letters.i have a grade 8 education and they still hire me through the h.c.t.f when they can , as a private fishery consultant. but i do the rest cause its my passion.with only the future in mind . this is only because i fish every day in one of my 3 larger water sheds and i know whats going in in them .."an unfished river has no friends" and that is so true .being in the helicopter you would not believe what they do where there is no people to look out for the land and rivers. every good action makes a difference. start local :beerchug:
