i have been trying a sink tip v.s the full sink wile trolling for cutts here in the back country. i have found that when the water is high and the lake has some color ,i was hitting fish on my sink tip more that the sinker ....the fish were near the surface and the sink line was under them. but when the water was cold, low and clear i still did well . ..i like the way a heavy sink tip trolls because the floating line heads right over the fish way out of there concern .it sucks a chunk of the floater down but the sink tip head right down to the basement as soon as you kill the electric,we fish SLOW! so it dangles in the zone near bottom and then pulls up out of their zone when you engage the engine again . this way i think the fish dont follow the fly through the water for a while . they see it come into the area ,and then when it head for the surface they attack it before it gets far. i also believe that the clearer the water, then the farther the boat should be from the fly and having half your sink line out is not far...but a full leader, sinktip and full floater out there is far anuf that the fish forgot about you. remember SLOW..if you go over some fish it will be 2 min, before they see your fly.fishing this way with a sinker can leave you stuck on the bottom and with a empty fly box quick. so giver a try next time you out by your self ..try both and see. .....
