I don't tape but probably should! I have never boke a rod from the ferrules coming loose but it might happen one day. Some rod manufactures have made it part of the warranty, no tape, no warranty! My problem is I am so excited to get on the water; nine times out of ten, I forget. You no, got to make use of every second available!

I think that tapeing is a good idea--The only problem that I have found is that the tape is takeing the finish off a couple of my rods.

I used to tape em up.
But then I just slowly got away from it.
You know, I'm only going out for an hour it's not worth it.
I just check them regularily now.
One thing to remember on extended trips where your rod may be
strung up for days. If your ferrules do get a bit loose you would never know it and it really accelerates ferrule wear. The outcome could be a bit nasty.
Periodic tear down and re-tape woud be a good idea every couple days.
i only tape when i need to, some rods i don't need to some i do.
and if i have to tape i only tape the top section where it's harder to check while fishing without dunking your reel in the water. The other joints are easy to check while fishing. I have a ton of rods and only rod i ever have to tape is my cnd. Spiggot furrels have loser fits?

no tape here, if the rod sections are consistantly loosening you are using too much power. That said graphite is temperature sensitive and should be checked occasionally. Longer rods seem to have more of an issue with loosening due to extra torque and twist. Out of curiosity Rick, which companies void warranty if no tape?
Hey Brian, from what I understood CND was making this part of there warranty. I went in to the CND webiste to have a look and saw nothing along those lines except, a recommendation. Maybe I was wrong?
One would consider tapeing rod joints I'm sure for more than One reason,in my case absolutely. When I fish me Old Hardys, B&W, Maxwell,Lamiglas, TnT's and even the old Brown Sages I tape as a matter of respect for their heritage and need for their mechanics. In fact I always tape the Joints on my fairly new Hardy Angel, likely because it has broke once,at the ferrule and I don't want that again.
The newer(last 7 or 8 years) graphite rods seem to be less prone to twisting and definitely are manufactured with fewer integrated spigotts, maybe a factor...Every 15' and up rod I fish or cast for a time I will tape...a matter of trust and perhaps sense.
You know, I was also thinking that maybe ritual is playing less of a factor with we Spey fishers....like the tweed hats and Cigars!??
