winter cutts

Anybody fish cutties on the beach throught the winter?
I have heard some good things throught the grapevine.
Probably have to give it a go.
Love those cutties.

beaches are clear now and the weather is better. i try isolated places were the sea runs cant leave an area e.g an island or inlet . i find it a lot harder to find them in the winter.i dont know if thats because its colder with less action on top or are half of them in the river already? mines the chartreuse and white clouser.....with the red eyes or course .

was out today at the mouth and a pare of binoculars came in handy . birds can be mistaken for a fish when looking at a large beach witch you cant cover at all times with the eye . at the far end i could see what i thought was a fish boiling in the estuary . but with the lenses i could see a bird feeding heavy and only coming to the top to catch a breath and go back under . i think that with out the binoculars i would have walked all they way down the beach to be disappointed. just a thought for next time your on the hunt for bullets on the beach.

This is a highly guarded personal fishery.
Getting someone to tell you where there fave beach is probably not going to happen unless you pour them full of rotgut.
Basically, cutties like gently sloping beaches that are protected from the full force of the ocean.
Do some searches and pick up some books such as the Gilly or West Coast Flyfishing. FlyFishing Coastal Cutthroat would be a good bet as well.

aww ok. lol. well im excited seems down here fishing involves more research then im use to. well its gunna be a blast.

because they do not go to deep and stay close to shore they do not get hit by seals or otters in the chuck nearly as bad as salmon or steelies .they can sit in a smaller body of water when in stream. they use large rivers to small streams ....i like small streams..this my be hard in a city setting but im sure with some exploring on the outskirts you may be surprised where you find the bullets .my tip would be look at the mouth of all the small streams you can find. when in stream ......remember its like a mini steelhead, so look for mini steelhead lies and holding water. if a steelhead will sit in bathtub size piece then a searun will sit in a sink size piece.
