Default muchalat river closure a good thing

while on the gold this year you will not be able to fish Van Eagans or the slot, the home stead or the bend above , the a frame or the confluence . these are some of the spots i love on the muchy. the muchalat river flows into the gold in the top end and makes up the larger portion of the river at this point ..adding a lake rich water full of nutrient to the clear, cold gold river. till the 80s i believe, the muchy was closed to fishing due to the summers that would hold here below the lake. the historic run of dec fish would boot right through the low end and striate to the upper canon and the muchy. now ...if you think about them bonking steelhead back then....the summers would have it the worst and then the dec fish.if guys are killing fish, then the fish thats in the longest is going to have the greatest chance of getting killed ..... the dec fish are still there but..... no more 10-15 fish days that my mentors talk of . getting some fish on new years was great . not to many island streams like the gold left were you can get a steelhead year round.(with out a hatchery and tons of dudes ) its not a easy river to learn and with all the muchy pools closed from dec 1st to the spring ,its even harder.but i think that if the otters are the only fisherman on the muchy again all winter, then maybe the numbers of fish will stabilize, maby returns will increase if the fishery is taken care of and managed properly and this closure is a step in the right direction. p.s the buck in the avatar picture was a new years fish on the gold caught on a steelys nightmare

    Default Closure

Well, patches,we've know for years that the closure was a good thing indeed. Unfortunately it will only keep the good guys out. If the ministry has their way we wil only be able to fish from the Confluence of the Heber to the bottom..Period! What do you think about that?
IMO we need to fight that with tooth and Nail...

    Default heber down?

i did not hear anything about that .i think a seasonal closure in the top end is good and will protect the spawner's. i now that a large portion of the fish drop back and spawn around the golf course .and i think that a closure from april1-june 1st would protect the fish from chochies fishing them on there beds. but a complete closer all year-Heber down ?...... would hurt the town through the winter months . and take some of my favorite water away .
