Check out Don's videos at www.sfotf.ca , he always wraps under the tails to pin them up. Good tip!

Hello Again,
I have been tying micro leeches and leeches lately stocking up for the season. I just found a great tip on them. If you have ever stood there waiting on a fish to take your micro and you get it in and the tail is wrapped around the hook shank, you are frustrated! Specially if you fish Micros unders an indicator. Well I just got a tip from Ron at the Kamloops Fly Shop. He told me to wrap my thread a couple times under the tail to bring it up a tad, and it protects the tail from wrapping up on the hook! Any other tips people would like to share on micro leeches or perhaps there favourite patterns?
Thought this would be usefull for those of you that do not know.

Thread wraps under a marabou tail is not a new thing. It's been around for years but needs re-reminding occasionally. This is my twentieth year selling microleeches to retail stores so it's at least twenty years old! It is not a guarantee that the marabou won't wrap around the bend but it helps to dissuade it. Another option is to go one hook size smaller and wrap closer to the bend of the hook with your tail and combining that with the underwraps should alleviate your problem.

one of my favourite patterns, can tie it in a whole bunch of colours and bead combo's. can also tie it with dubbed seal fur, but this ways quick and easyaustyn

I tie all my leeches with seal fur. Also, he ties in the flashabou wrong. Should use 1 piece and fold it over to lock it in properly.Mind you, there is no wrong way if it works for you. Ive had it pull out tying it in that way. Leech yarn is also a fast way to tie them, with a chenille egg.
Black with red rib, bead head is your choice.
I don't know if these qualify as, "micro" but they are small. My fishing buddy and I have been killin' 'em on our open-water lakes the last two months with this pattern fished VERY slowly in the frigid water.
The blue version was inspired from Mr. Kent's, "Manitoba Bulldog" pattern (shown above).
The pattern looks much better in the water when the seal is trained to lay back. The sparse tail gives a nice slender profile that "breathes" very nicely.
I tie the marabou all the way back on the straight section of the hook then take a wrap or two under the tail and even with these very long tails I have little trouble with the fibers wrapping around the hook bend. I think problems arise when the marabou tie-off is too far forward of the bend.
Hook: Daiichi 1650, 2X-Heavy, 2X-Short, Size #8
Tail: Marabou
Body: Dyed Seal or Similar
Bead: Glass, Silverlined, Size #6
