Default First Fish On The Fly

Got a great opportunity to fish the Harrison via jetboat with a new friend. We were fishing for cutthroat in the small eddies and braids near the mouth of the Chehalis. I caught one early on and then nothing for the rest of the day. Does it count as a first catch if it got away 5 feet from me bringing it in? Great time, great weather.

only counts if you touched the leader.

Don't let the old grizzled ones get you down...it counts if it brought a smile to your face and you looked forward to each next cast in anticipation of that next sweet hookup!

Haha! I love it. I caught my first Coho on the fly this year in the Squamish. Got it into a few feet of water, a friend waded in and grabbed the leader. Head shake, roll, fish off. Oh well, caught my frist Coho. Sort of. Can't wait till next season when I can actually bring one to hand.

So I agree with both Prof and TakeMyFly. If you had a good time, for sure it counts. But I bet you really want to bring one to hand eh?

Congrats man! Once you get that first fish on the fly and you feel what a fly rod feels like with tight lines, its an addiction!

Come on, this isnt the world tarpon tour here. Good catch, youll never forget it either. Got my first coho this year aswell, got it to my feet and then it ran out to the backing, almost to my feet again and gonzo. I never touched the leader but i figure if i wasnt so excited it would be in the bbq Of coarse only if it was a hatchery

Geez you guys are a tough crowd, Guess none of you have ever heard a guide say that, eh? Just kidding anyway, it took your fly, so you for sure caught it. Congratulations. Now the madness starts.

Yeah man. It's amazing. My first fish on the fly was on the Englishman River. Little 6-8 inch rainbows. Nothing to them really but it is amazing how even that can get ya hooked.
