    Default Tofino

Hey there, just have a few questions that maybe some of you can help me with.
I am headed to tofino the second week of march for a week of fly fishing and surfing, and was wondering for one if anybody can help me out with places to fish for cutthroat, as i have never been there. Looking for somewhere close as i will be with my wife and kids (they wont be fishing) so i have to be somwhat readilly available. Would like to try to fish some mouths of creeks and whatnot going tinto the pacific, as i hear that is good out there.
Also do i need any special fishing licsence to do this or is my regular one fine? And last but not least any fly patterns that you guys would suggest as i have never fished sea run cutties before.
    Thanks
    Carlo

    Rich Trout.JPGHi carlo..
The Tofino area that time of year can be very good for Cutthroat Trout and Steelhead...make sure you do get your Salt water license though ..there are may small creeks that enter the beach areas...Tofino Creek being one..Grise Bay,the beach in Ucuelet and others. Also the Kennedy Lake area creeks will also have many fish hanging about in wait for Salmon fry..try a Bead head Muddler in natural colour,a Brown and White Polar Bear Minnow in a size 8 ,Mickey Finn adn other minnow patterns..these don't have to be too specific as there are many small fry entering these salt waters...
Have a good time and do check out our website for fly patterns

March is a great time for hungry cutts, most will have finished there spawn and might be skinny but if you find a good school it can be fast action. If you get some nice sunny weather the midge fishing in the lake can be very effective little dark dries. Fish shallow and look for guts the creeks carve into the lake and if the fry are hatching you'll get'em. Mallard back silver body red thread head is also simple and deadly. If you get a big one in the lake this time of year 12"-18", let it go it has not spawned yet. Good luck.
