Anyone out there heard of Bill 30?
Despite my occupation, I had never heard of this piece of legislation until quite recently, and it seems to be all over other fishing and outdoor activity forums. Not sure what it's all about, but I'm betting it's likely to become important for us who like the hit the dirt roads in search of some solitude and good fishing.
Some stuff you can find on google, some of it somewhat boring, some of it from one side, some from another.
The link to the actual Bill is: http://www.leg.bc.ca/38th4th/1st_read/gov30-1.htm
The negative spin: http://www.resourceroadsbc.com/information.htm
The positive spin: http://www.abcsnow.ca/?q=node/213
Perhaps it's time to panic, perhaps not, but it would be good for us to learn more at the very least.
"Our tradition is that of the first man who sneaked away to the creek when the tribe did not really need fish." ~ Roderick Haig-Brown
To be clear Bill 30 the Road Resource Act, from the 38th seating of Parliament did not make it past first reading. It has however, been modified into the Natural Resource Road Act (denied) which as planned will be introduced into the legislature in fall 2012. Though a bit late in the game there was public consultation (denied especially when it is descending). Their website is http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/mof/nrra/ If you have specific issues you can go to your MLA. Other issues affecting things like recreational access should be discussed here where we have a louder voice. Yes, even some of "those people" our elected representatives, fish.
