    Default Brannen Lake

I was out on Brannen Lake on Saturday with nothing to show for it. First time out with the two kids in tow. One of the kids decided his snow boats would be good for wading before we started... He now knows different. We did one tour of the lake starting from the boat launch. It was a bit windy at times but generally okay. A bit of ice around the edge in places. Three guys fishing bait from the dock but they were gone before I got back.

Next time out I would spend more time at the inflow of the one creek on the west side and at the outflow to Millstone, I would bundle and sedate both kids and I would also fish some leeches under indicators.

Anyone fished Brannen that can give me some advice (about the fishing not the kids..) ?

I fished the dock one blustery day. Nothing to show for it. I do know there are Kokanee salmon\trout resident in the Brannen lake. It's tough in Nanaimo in the winter. I know Langford lake is okay right now, same with Elk lake. Both of those are in Victoria.

I hit a ton of fish at Long Lake in early March last year.

Apparently the fishing is tough there due to a large population of Chaborous midges.
It was recently stocked with small trout (yearlings?) so there will probably be plenty of fish next year if yu can figure out how to get them to bite...

Thanks guys. I'm going to spend some time out there in the next month or 2 just to see what's up. From the stocking reports there should be some fish out there. Likely its just me but hey nothing ventured nothing gained. Next decent day I am going to go out (somewhere different) and do some fishing. Hopefully with a little better success. Cheers.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. This whole boobie thing is new to me (the fly..). I tied the gurgler but the foam I was using wasnt buoyany enough.. Just picked up the proper precuts from wholesale but they only had white. Guess I will brealk out the markers.

John I tried to pm you but your inbox is full. Im wondering if you know what the collar and tail material are on this pattern and if its one youve had success with?

    Again thank you.
