I signed this petition last year and have been donating to this campaign for a while. Look at what happened with Exxon Valdez. That community was heavily affected, and they received virtually no compensation. If tankers are going to frequent our waters, then they need to produce significant insurance demonstrating a commitment to the complete rehabilitation of any areas affected by their activities, including catastrophic failures of containment.

One of the other things not on most people's radars is the emptying of bilge tanks at sea. Take a look at that one when you get the time... It's sickening, it's preventable, and it's not even known about by most of the population.

That's how zebra mussels got in the Great Lakes....
