I don't know alot about fish yet and am only just starting to be able to identify them so it's completely possible the jumping fish was something other than a steelhead. It was also really only visable for a split second as it jumped so my best guess is based on its mainly bright silver colour and long thin body shape. I've heard other people talking about seeing/catching the odd one up here already as well so it's possible we're in for a good year. I'm going to switch from eggs and sculpins to steelhead stinger patterns this weekend.

Anyone planning to brave the freezing rain and get on the river this weekend? I may try to get on the Squamish if the rain keeps coming and brings the water level back up.

I was on the Vedder this morning. Not ideal conditions at all, freezing rain and gusting winds from about 730-930. Calmed down around 0930, and fishes until 1130. Just worked the run at the end of Peach Rd. Good casting practice, and nice to learn that my cold weather layering is up to snuff. But aside from that no takes.

If you head up to Squamish this weekend, good luck.

just got back from the squamish. river was low but rising with snow melt. the drive up at 630 this morning was crazy. nearly ended up in the ditch. had to go 20 km an hour after furry creek. very windy today. i had my 7 year old sister so didnt get very far. swinging sculpins with no avail. seems like this system has been pretty slow as of late. you have to put in some time to find the fish then bump em in the nose. another month and its steel time.
