    Default Squamish Fishing

First day of the year, first day on the river with new gear. Anyone else get out this weekend? No fish in the Mamquam today, heading to the Cheak tomorrow, heard the dollies are biting. Anybody have info on specific access spots on the cheakamus river? I drove down a ways yesterday but saw ALOT of no trespassing signs. PM's would be much appreciated. Anyone want to come?

The Bailey Bridge on Paradise Valley Rd. is a good place to start.. the trail leads to the RR tracks and you can follow the river that way. The other side of the Cheak is largely private property N. Van Outdoor school and others. So the tracks are the best access. Good luck, let us know how you do.

Does the trail follow the tracks or do you have to walk the tracks then find access along the river from there? I've fished that area before but never more then just around the bridge. I'm not overly keen on walking the tracks, that train comes through there at a pretty good tick.

You'll have to find access to the river from the tracks.. Although it's not too bad, there is plenty of room to avoid a train. Never heard of any accidents in that area.

Squeezed out a couple hours before it started pouring this afternoon. There were eight or nine people fishing the bridge area so I opted to walk down river. The water was pretty clear and low. Saw some fish in the side channels, a few bull trout and one coho (I think) and a bunch of dead/almost dead chum. Too tight to get in to the bulls though. Lost a flesh pattern on the rocks in the river and a sculpin on the rocks behind me ha ha! I walked quite a ways down the tracks and found a couple spots but still waiting on waders in the mail limited accessibility. Saw one guy with a mountain bike which I will be doing in the future as it's a longish walk on the tracks back to Sunwolf.

It doesn't seem that there's a specific trip report section in the forum so it might be helpful to start threads for specific areas getting fished. I'd be happy to hear other guys experiences getting out in my neck of the woods. I'd also be happy to post in others sections ie. the Fraser or Vedder rivers and read up a bit before heading out to other places. Please feel free to post your Squamish trip reports here!

Broke out the new waders this weekend to explore more of the Cheak. Took along a wading staff (actually my collapsible hiking pole) as they came highly reccomended by those here on the forum. I have to admit it was helpful. I trudged around a bit looking for a channel I thought I saw that turned out to be a trickle before heading further upstream and came across a guy just leaving. He let me know he had seen several fish in this run but he must not have been using the right fly that day. No sooner had he left then a steelhead jumped two feet out of the water right in front of me. You'd think he'd have the decency to bite my fly then....right? No.

Was up there on Sunday, had some luck on the egg pattern, but managed a nice bully on a white woolly bugger. Just wondering but are the eggs flies getting a bit long in the tooth? What other patterns do you go with up there? Flesh? I guess the fry will becoming on soon. Anything helps new to the site, love the site!!!!! Happy trails.

Sculpin patterns are really talked about in the Squamish, as well as white and olive intruders.

Hi guys, pale yellow old looking eggs and flesh patterns were the advice I've gotten so far for bulls from our new local Whistler Fly Fishing sattelite shop in Squamish. But sculpins will catch both the bulls and steelhead as Scott said.
