Default Hello from the bank of the Cowichan River

Hello all, I am one of the luckiest guys in BC. I live beside a Heritage River that is literally full of fish. This month alone I have caught a 24" Brown, a large number of Rainbows ( I always lose count) one beautiful cuttie, and a Dollie ( I'd say it was a Bull but I'm told that on the Island they are called Dollies). I just retired so I have been able to spend much more time on the river, thus the numbers.
With the latest rain (29 Dec) the river is up today, the height is just under 1.5 mtrs. There are still plenty of spawning Coho in the river and the trout are keying on egg flies. I also hear that there are early steelies in the upper river. I think I will try for them today. I will attach a few pix once I figure out how.

Welcome to the site Sandy. Good luck today with the Steelie. I'm hoping to get out on the Cowichan in the next week while we are over visiting family in Nanaimo, so it's good to hear that there may be some early Chrome there to be chased. Though I was thinking I'd try my luck further down river. I've got to give the regs a read again and make sure I'm on top of what's open.

    Welcome to the site.

    Scott.

    Default Cowichan River Bank

Good job Sandy! It is great to hear you are having some luck on the river. It's really motivating to hear such news. We are coming up on the 28th of Jan, hoping to get into a steelhead or two. I have the mindset, that even a rainbow or a 24" Brown would be a great trip. We are going to bring the boat to use in the lake if the water is too high. Then again, you're catching fish and the water is up, so I am thinking it will be good fishing. We have 3 days, we're bound to land something.

    Cheers, Scott
