    Default very big cuts,in very cold waters

    yes we had a killer day on one of Powell rivers larger lakes.we started real early and headed up the logging roads . they are closed all day mon- fri if you don't have a radio . we did not bring it so we went in the dark .arriving at dusk we put in and had a very cold run up .with towering mountains and the sun rising we started with stickle backs and leaches ,the kokanee are pretty much dead and they are really into large leaches fished real slow. we fish the electric on 1 and shut it down and start allot just keeping that fly right in the zone. we fished the good spot and the sun still had not come over the peak so we went to the shady side and hit some small fish, 10-16 inch.now were really cold, and got out for a run just to get the blood goin. the sun hits the sunny side and were off....we arrive to fish a 300 yard stretch of the shore and bask in the warmth .we decide that after last week where we lost some big fish, we will make a run down and if we don't hit a nice fish we will move to a another, not so cold lake . just as we get 40 feet from the end of the run i hit a beautiful buck ,about 25inch with some big shoulder ..definitely a 5-7 lb fish .the wrist was so thick i could not get a good grip. at the same time scott landed a 22 witch wile having mine lay unharmed in the landing net off the side of the boat, i shot a picture of his fish and he released it and grabbed the camera to take mine . after the shots ,and watching these spectacular fish swim to the depths we both landed 2 more fish in the 23-24 inch range .these fish are thick, healthy, chrome lake fish that will feed till there spring spawn in this area.after a few more passes scott tosses one up shallow between the lumber and hooks a nice fish.........hold on.......thats really nice he says .....i think it at least as big as my hog ,i say....yep..ITS BIG ...REALLY BIG .looking down i can see a vary big male 8 feet under the boat.thats huge i say ..after a battle and a great landing by the net guy (me) a 29 inch mail that was well over 10 i would say closer to 12 lb s was the quick star of a photo shoot then roared out of scotts hands back to the wood.........now iv seen some big cutts, some bigger than this (but not mine or scotts) but this fish was THICK and I cant even begin to describe its perfect, west coast ,wild, cutthroat self.....so I will let the pictures do the talking .i will find out how to scan them and get them on here A.S.A.P .wow what a day and its going to be a great winter.;

    Default lakes are hot in the cold

    the lake fishing in the area is picking up. the fish are feeding on juvenile kokanee and stickleback in fairly shallow waters. big cuts will hold in 4-8 feet ,right on the shore some times when the water is cold and they do not need to retreat to deeper waters during the daytime temp rise . in fact i find that little bit of sun can really turn them on some times in the cold. they site there like an alligator and wait to ambush some passersby.over the next 3 months cutthroat fishing will be in its prime . the fish are still thick and chrome and hungry! im going up today and its going to be so cooooold this time of the year a tin boat and elctric is all you need but sitting in a tinny all day can be cold on the feet ,butt and lower back so a seat cover is key for a full day . if your planing a trip up here to fish, bring warm gear and a good sleeping bag . we are going to set up the wall tent this weekend and pound some lakes that are close together .winter camping can be fun if your prepared to keep warm .and if you have some of ricks scotch! lol

    Default good day

    got some nice fish today . me and paul took our dads fly fishing ....this is new to them but they got some nice fish, not big but beautiful . one spit out a gob of what i believe are cronies...i dont fish them but i know a bunch of you do, just wondering about the kind , a huge hatch broke out and you were breathing them in they were so thick at the pull out.small fish were on the rise to them. the fish was only a small 13 inch fish. another 13 inch fish regurgitated a 8 inch kokanee that was half digested and a stickleback and sculpins ......it was only 13 inch? what a greedy little bastered eh ? a eagle came down a took a 3 lb cutthroat right of ricks line leaving the intruder still attached to the line....and i got it all on video !i cant seem to get it on my you tube channel but ill try to get it to where you guys can see that...its sweet!
