Nice tie. Rainbows love crayfish..... One lake I use to fish a few years ago has 5-10 lbers and the majority of the time if you take one home they are
full of crayfish the size you tied. One question though. Dry fly???? They live under rocks.....

I found it was ridiculously effective to cast them right along the far bank onto the shore, pop them into the water and swing or strip them as fast as they would go. Pause them every 5 feet or so, and they would get slammed on the pause, sometimes so hard a small 20" cutty would snap the 8 pnd test on the hit.

To me this doesn't seem all that odd. I dive for crayfish a lot on the mainland and island (goggles). When they are started them commonly swim backwards fast and they way their tail is causes them to rise in the water column. I've seen some "skip" or pop their tails out of the water trying to escape me for a solid 10 feet before stopping and allowing themselves to sink with their claws up.

Whatever it's imitating, it works hella good, was even working good as a dry or sub surface in that one lake I talked about. I'm sure they are taking it as a crayfish, but who knows, maybe they are seeing it as a caddis or something?

    Cheers,
    Dan

    Yes...buy the pre-knotted ones! LOL

You can try putting the loop in the fibres and then grabbing the tip with twizzers, forceps or a fuse clip. That never worked for me as the fibres on my pheasant seemed to be too short.

First picture shows all the materials I used

Ralph is right, I bought some pre tied ones a few years back in the states for 58 cents or so a piece in a store close out sale because I thought they were cool. Figured I had to use them up somehow lol. Looks much better on the small pattern for the claws, they seem a little undersized for the larger pattern, although I'm sure it will work. Was trying to think of a substitute but it's good enough for me.

    Cheers,
    Dan
