Just kidding. Fall can be a great time to fish. Depending on where. Here in cutthroat country fall and winter offer some of our best fishing.
    I can't wait!

Stillwater fishing in the Fall is really productive in the Interior if BC. The best is before the ice forms obviously, but varies depending on the area you want to fish. Perhaps some more details about your tactics and location might help generate some responses to your question. Leeches are my go to for the Fall.

Fall fishing is my favorite time of year, usually the crowds aren't around and the fish start gorging for the winter. If you can find a lake with a strong boatman population, the annual flight can be amazing fishing!!!

What boatman patterns and sizes have you had best success with in the fall?

I use a foam boatman tied on a #12 hook. Body of muddy yellow with a silver tag, tan foam back marked with black felt pen. Fished on a full sink line with a 6 foot leader retrieve is short sharp pulls of 6-10 inches. Unlike what I've read I get most of my hits fishing right on bottom

Are there waterboatmen in higher elevation lakes as well?

I'm planning on heading into the mountains near Kelowna next week just wondering if it's worth it to grab some imitations to take with.
