Ahh, the infamous new rod blues.

Try not to over think it too much. Blaming the rod is always a fun way to go abouts things, but try and reassess the flies, leader formula and line you are using as well when approaching the water you fish and it'll usually pay off in the long run!

Ive been using a new rod this past week. Ive been loving the feeling of the rod and have landed a few smaller fish on it but for some reason the 3 bigger fish I had on all got off. I was seriously wondering if it was something about the rod that was causing me to loose them. Maybe its cursed too haha. Im not about to give up on it quite yet though. Cheers.

haven't had that problem with a rod, but i have had that problem with hats. i had a Browning hat that i used to wear, and while wearing it i caught all kinds of fish. sadly, it was lost. switched to a Remington hat, and i still caught fish, but not as many as with the Browning hat. tried a Kokanee beer hat. shit f**k all. can't catch fish with it on. back to the Remington hat. tried a different Browning hat, no dice. back to Remington. Recently started wearing a Badlands packs hat. it's HOT HOT HOT!!!! i'm slaying fish every time i wear it. Remington hat is now retired to shooting range wear status.

also, i have one fishing partner i always catch fish, and good fish, with. i have another fishing partner that it took over a dozen trips to get the skunk out of the boat, and then the fish were few and far between. recently we've had better luck, but it's usually one of us catching fish while the other doesn't. if i go back to the same spot, use the same gear and the same techniques, but i go without him, i usually slay the fish. odd eh?

Nice spring, you better let me take that cursed rod off your hands before it affects you reel and line. Next time you buy a rod at nile creek make sure to ask C to show you the rods that are not cursed.
