That's really unfortunate. I hate to hear stuff like that. I have had to good fortune to meet in person a couple pretty decent people from this site, so I count myself lucky there.

As far as clubs go, I have not joined one, so have not had to deal with what you did. I too would have been pretty pissed off. Clubs are supposed to advance social activity, not take us back to grade 8. I don't understand why people like that belong to clubs in the first place. Might as well just go for a beer with just themselves.

We attended a BBQ get together with the local club .. once getting there, we didn't know anyone .. we approached a table of people ..and asked if the four chairs at their table, were taken .. they replied they were ,,, we thanked them and move onto an empty table in the back... The wife and I thinking .. something isn't right .. we watched those four chairs of the first table approached ... over the span of the nite .. no one came and sat in those chairs all nite ... but we were told they were taken .. I never renewed my membership ...

Another experince was with a online fishing forum .. the wife and thought we'd try a online fishing communty get together .. after spending 8 hrs with truck and trailer, after being told it was a 3 hr trek .. we get there ..and the campsite was HUGE .. everyone was spread out ... so we found a spot .. and tryed to find the fishing group .. we did find the fishing group .. they hung around in clicky groups ...I never attended another one ...

So now ... the wife and I do it alone ... having experinced the socail side of this sport ....
    Hi Jaimie,

That is too bad. Sounds like you might of ended up, and I'm hoping not, at Roche or Sheridan? I think it is important to remember that these online community get togethers are pretty informal events and it may take some time to establish some relationships. Some new members show up expecting to be 'guided' and that's not always the case. At BCFR, where I am now a Moderator, it took me several years of attending 'fish outs' to get to know people to the point where I feel comfortable stepping into group gatherings. Also, with campsites being so spread out, it can be a challenge to feel accepted at these group gatherings. Trust me, the social side of most gatherings are fun and worth it if you can step out of your comfort zone to make a connection or two, even if that is not your 'thing.'

Well ... I hate to say this ...Big - Green " but " my story isn't uncomon...it happens more than one wants to admit ...

But... that's " OK " I leave the Clubs and on-line community get togethers for what they are ...

.. It's not that we are anti-socail or expect someone to hold our hand ... But.. first impressions last the longest ...

It's go it alone for the wife and I .... less hassles ..
