    no secret to steelhead flies,
probabaly the best and most popular would be black/purple combo,
    but endless combos really...
    i stick to these colors...
    black,purple,pink,blue,orange.
i use cut to length plastic tube instead of metal tubes and add barbell eyes, and prefer the small diameter.
    love to swing

Just picked up a tube adaptor for my vise, I can hardly wait to get home and give it a try. Lots of Steely patterns to tie up, not much time left.

    Question tube flies?

Well I considered myself quite the fly fisherman, then I heard of tube flies. I'd never seen or heard of them before until i was flippin through this topic here, and someone had one posted on there photos, I'm pretty sure it was Rick.
Now I've seen the needles before for tying them, but I'm not really sure how they are to be used. I would very much like to know. Is there any benefits to tube flies over the norm? What are the pros and cons of tube flies? And once again how do they work?! Thanks for any input, the sooner you post the sooner i feel like less of a dumba$$

    Cheers all

    CK.

Click on this link for some really cool video clips and step by steps by Eumer.

    http://www.hycreek.com/eumer.wcs?type=BTUBES

To see the video clips, just click on the different metal tubes, then underneath each one you will see a little TV or camera icon. Click the icon and the show starts.
If you want to see the plastic tube versions click on the left hand menu and click on the plastic tubing...it will show you how the graduated ( tapered needle ) works. Basically a jamb technique.

    Hope that helps

Norseman is quite right about the Eumer Tube Fly Accessories...the versatility of tube flies especially in this mode is really quite mind blowing...we are now tying with tubes for basically all species in Salt and Fresh Water...lately we have been doing some work on Deep Water - Salt Water Fishing with Tubes. ...by extending the coloured tubes you can create a neat lateral line that can extend as far back as you desire! For Fresh Water you can extend the tube to the far end of a Leech's tail, more hook-ups much more creative.Having the heavy weighted body ,if you wish, gets the flies to the fish more quickly and definitely more naturally.
Eumer provides us with many different body styles with various grooves and dips, extensions and sooooo much more........
The only real mystery is how to store these wonderful creations. There are a few tube fly boxes on the market, even Eumer has One but they all still suck!
    I like the
Wheatley but that too has a few design issues that are difficult to overcome.
Have fun....Nile Creek Fly Shop will have a much larger supply within the next week or so
