As someone who moved here from another high tax area (CA)...taxes suck. :-) I don't mind paying for services but so much is wasted.

I'm definately voting Yes to get rid of the HST. The old system only charged me one tax on most of my purchases so the drop from 12% to 10% is bull as I rarely paid 12% before. And to tell me that a business owner saving some $$ is going to go out and hire more employees....bull...he / she is simply going to pocket the profit and buy a newer Escallade. Maybe we will lose out on some movie industry $$'s but what matters most to me is how much tax I have to pay on my day-to-day purchases. It may be narrow minded but what matters most to me is money from MY pocket.

The single greatest problem is that we listen, chiefly, to economists when it comes to taxation.

If you've ever had the "joy" of working with economists in a professional capacity, you'll know precisely what I'm referring to. It's not a discipline that is 100% filled with d-bags, but it's rife with them.

The functioning of our province works on the principle of three forms of wealth: economic, social and environmental. All three of them are linked, and all three of them make up the greater wealth of the province. Electing the liberals and listening to economists will result in economic expansion that will take from the social and environmental wealth of the province. Don't believe me?

Just take the time to go and see what's happening with the Cohen Inquiry. If you're in Vancouver, you can attend. It's being held right across from the Library downtown. Or maybe you could take the time to speak with people that are rapidly losing their jobs. Small businesses that are seeing reduced patronage because of poorly devised tax plans and a budgetary planning session that's rode our social values into the ground for multiple concurrent years.

While economic values are the fuel that makes our day to day lives work, the social and environmental values of our province are irreplaceable. We can't buy community, and we can't buy back extinction.

The majority of economists are unable to function on an ethical approach that is founded on the pillars of the triple bottomline, instead they tout hogwash that's been contrived by the Chicago School. Remember Pinochet in Chile? The Chicago School put him power. Those were their economic plans in action. They destroyed that country and sold its riches to foreign investment groups. Run of River?

Voting conservative in the 21st century is completely against the interests of anybody that makes less than $250,000/year.

I dont really agree with the hst, however my friend owns a small landscaping buisness and is loving the ability to recover the taxes as he wasnt able to do before. This rebate to the buisness owner was designed to be passed on to the consumer but as you could all imagine.......the buisnesses just got a bonus

i dealt with the HST, high gas prices, shit wages and high unemployment by jumping ship and i'm now living and working in Alberta. i make $3 per hour more here, but my take home pay is over double what it was back in PG and $8 per hour more and triple what i made in Abbotsford. i can now afford to pay my bills, buy some toys, and even buy a fishing licence in BC. i still get to fish and play in BC on a regular basis, since i'm less than 2 hours from Tumbler Ridge, yet i don't have to tolerate an ass raping. it's great. i'll move back when BC gets a proper government and pulls it's head out of it's ass.

Just heard on the radio that a punny 52% of the people bothered to send in their ballots on the HST. No wonder we are always getting the sharp end of the stick. Too many apathetic people. Sad really
As far as getting a proper government, I think we are stuck with Christy crunch for awhile.
