    Exclamation apex vice

    warning apex vices are deadly. i got my vice not even 6 months ago and i was tying a size 16 damsel when a piece of the jaw shot off like a bullet almost hitting me in the eye by like an inch. wear safety glasses well tying with this vice. lol

    Bummer! Hope it is warrantyable.

    I had the same thing happen to my Renzetti a while back. Luckily thanks to the local fly shop, I was able to warranty it and was leant a set to use while they dealt with replacing them.

    Thank god for Warranties!

    yea i took it in today see what they can do it does say lift time warranty

    it was the apex anvil vice and yea i dont think ill be using it again after that, it was so close to taking out my eye i dont think ill be using it again. if i do get a new one from warranty. it also left a lil dent in my drywall where the lil peace hit 10 ft away from the vice. good thing i got 2 old back up vices to use

    I use a HMH and a Griffen Odessey Spider as a backup, jaws were probably over hardend on the Apex have seen that happen on another Apex and tested the hardness of the remaining part of the jaw, on the Rockwell scale it was if I remember right around 79 to 82 Rockwell, which is way to hard, it will shatter.

    had the same problem with my danvise but its just a chance you take working with hardened metals

    i think the jaws are way to thin on the anvil and the hook grooves right where it broke makes a deadly week spot.
