Default River left, upstream wind...recommended casts?

So the other day I was Skagit casting on river left with an annoyingly gusty upstream wind, I was using a circle Spey fairly effectively, but 1) the C spey was getting dodgy with the gusts and; 2) after my sweep, and then back and up, the wind was blowing my D loop significantly upstream that it made the foreword cast likely to crash into itself unless aiming significantly more downstream than I wanted to get my rig down.

Hoping to turn a frustrating day into a good learning experience for next time.

    Appreciate all recommendations - Thanks

You could go with the same cast, but make your cast with the rod at a bit of an angle out to your right to account for the position of the D-loop so that the top leg is still on the same plane as the bottom leg making a narrower D-loop can also impart a tighter loop at the other end which is good in the wind.

Or you could try a single spey/switch, just be careful of where your anchor lands cause on occasion if your anchor is right in front of you, you can nail yourself in the face (yes, it's happened to me - face, chest, back of the head, leg, crotch...ya, ouch...)

A perry poke can help you out too if you feel that the initial setup isn't what you want with any number of casts.

I would also recommend a poke after you have set up a D-loop from your circle spey, its a good way to correct your anchor position. I usually use a snap T or C in this situation without too much trouble from the wind. I keep the line really close to the water until I have set-up the D-loop so the wind doesn't have a chance to blow it out of position. I also use a 20' head so there isn't very much of it to blow around. Hope this helps.
