Should be a good one! Im in for sure. What to tie now
The best way to a fishermans heart is through his fly.
here is my first attempt
2x nymph hook
burnt dumbell eyes
heavy black yarn type thread
olive hare's mask dubbing mixed with hare e wiggle dub
brushed out with dubbing brush
pheasant tail tied legs
grey whiting wet hackle (very small bunch) for a tail
if i get to old to fish ...hell i will never get to old to fish!!
Ahh this is a good one, my stupid camera cords seems to have run off on me as I still cant find it, as soon as I do ill post one up.
Thanks for getting this going again, great to see everyone else take on a similar type of fly.

Why do I spend more time tying flies than catching fish?
Will get to work on this next time I sit at the vice.
Here it is.
Hook: Tiemco TMC 3769 2 x Heavy
Thread: Black Ultra Thread 140
Eyes: Small Dumbell Eyes, 1/40 Oz.
Rib: Medium French Tinsel
Shell Back: Ringneck Pheasant Center Tail
Body: Olive Strung Rabbit Zonker
Head: Olive Strung Rabbit Zonker
Although it may not look like it, there is a shell back unde the swung back rabbit zonker fibers. I cut the rabbit hair from the zonker strip and put it into a dubbing loop. When it moves through the water it will lay about the eyes and back like legs, exposing the shell back and ribbing.
Hope you like it. Kinda makes me think of Chewbacca, which makes me smile. Who knew George Lucas would have an influence on fly fishing :P

I think I found this pattern in a sportfish BC or BC outdoors issue. Still haven't tested it on any fish. It's just been resting quietly in my fly box, but it's really easy and fast to tie. Plus it's somewhat buoyant so it might fish like a booby on your Hi-D full sink, though it will probably get waterlogged fast and be nearly neutrally buoyant which is also good.

"It's a curious fact that estimated lengths and weights tend to make a fish larger than it really is!" Mike Maxwell, 'The Gilly'
Here is one variation of the deerhair gomphus I tie, with a twist---literally. The body is made a mix of chopped deerhair and a blend of UV ice dub and tan hares ear dubbing spun in a dubbing loop, two brown mottled 'sili-legs' and some chartreuse thin-skin for the wingcase. It makes that daunting task of spinning deerhair much easier and as long as you are using 6/0 thread, you are generally safe to "twist the hell out of it" to get things nice n' tight. I'll throw some UV knot sense over the deerhair head of the fly to give it a bit of extra life, as these things generally tend to get thrashed..
