Default What's the most powerful cast in your arsenal?

I'm interested to hear what everyone's opinion on this is. For me, when I have a heavy sink tip with a weighted fly and I'm holding 4 loops it's a perry poke. Which one do you rely on when your trying to throw a chicken across the river?

IF you are casting a chicken then the Compensator Cast or Perry Poke as it is now called will get the job done quite well,my favorite is ,for me,when fishing this way is the reverse Double Spey or even the reverse Snap "Z". Timing is much more critical but the results are excellent. You have to cast the line upstream, almost like a Jelly Roll and then develope you cast with your Cackhanded,or correct hand (depending on the flow of the water).

I go with a double single spey -

hehehe, no before you go "HUH?!?!? double single - WTF???" let me explain.

For some reason I'm always fishing river left. Just coincidence, but any way, I'm right handed, I strip in the line to my head, go through the lift etc to do a regular single spey. Flop out a short cast without shooting any line, then immediately do another, much more determined single spey.

It's a modification of the perry poke. Probably has already been named, but it's what I do. Basically make a short single at the target to accomplish the direction change, then lift and off you go again at the target again, but with distance.

Once I get feeling more confident with the balance of the lead core and the chicken, I tend to just go with the single spey and adjust my approach and presentation to compensate for a cast that is likely 10-20% shorter than if I had something more reasonable on the end of my line.

I find that with the poke, my tip and fly sink too much and tend to come out of the water all messy and such. I used to go with the poke all the time, but I'm trying the break the habit - in my case, it was a bad habit, but it's still an effective move when I get it right.

I don't use a skagit by the way, more of a modified short belly (~60ft) that is rated one line wt heavier than the rod, but likely right in the sweet spot grains wise.

I don't really throw that kind of set-up, but my favs are the single spey and the snake roll. The single being my super fav. The powerful simplicity of the cast just signifies all that is fishing with the long rod for me.

I like snap C's and I can really bomb line on occasion with a double spey. I cast with both T-14 and T-18 tips in 12.5' lengths. I like casting the T-14 much better than its heavier brother, but I can get casts out there with both just need slightly different casting strokes. I use an 11' switch and my longest cast so far is pushing 80' and I think that will serve me well for what I need it for. I think with some work I can get past 90' but i would never fish with that much line out so I don't know if I will ever cast that far with my current set-up. Maybe if I was trying to show off.. .
