Good for you flyfishguy, thats a great attitude. We all have to learn the hard way atleast once, definatly a beatiful specimen(but ugly as hell). I am sure you wouldnt have posted a bunch of pictures if you thought what you did was wrong, i definatly see your angle. All in all, handled very well

Yes I agree that the regs can be worded in a confusing way, which is why we have forums like this one plus the MOE's government web site where a person can download hunting and fishing regulations as well as updates. Remember too that these are now good for a two year period excluding updates.

In any event it is always safest to make sure for one's self that you are right beforehand. First Nations who belong to Treaty 8 up here can fish and hunt any time for anything, so please do not count on asking one of them if something is open or otherwise, as they really may not know or pay heed to those kinds of things.

For the benefit of anyone else who may be reading this and not in full understanding of the regs....you are responsible for your own catch. Retaining an illegally caught fish in order to give to a person whom is exempt from the regs because of a negotiated treaty deal is still illegal...they have to catch their own fish, by the methods outlined in their treaty deal. You aren't exempt from any regulations because of who your fishing partner may be.

Some regulations may be confusing, but you are required to understand them and abide by them prior to fishing. "So and so told me it was okay" doesn't cut it as a defence in court..... If you don't know for sure, and break a law, and happen to get caught, the penalties are very stiff.

Carry a copy of the regs with you, check every time before you fish, and if you don't understand, seek guidance from someone who can explain to you what the regs say. Most tackle shops are a good resource, and I'd be willing to explain any of the regulations as well, but as a general rule.........If you don't know, don't go!

Looks like there was fair warning, and ample opportunity to do the research......

If you're looking for positive comments on the photos, might want to be a little more careful about what gets posted...this sort of stuff doesn't tend to go over too well with a crowd like this.
