There are also websites like photobucket.com, or tinypic.com which will create a resized/smaller file sized version of your image (and even host it for you!).

The key is to keep your picture small.
Edit the dimensions down to something more manageable (I don't remember what the max size is for the forums, I just go for <1200px).

But if I can load one in this thread why can't I load it to the fly gallery? (it kept crashing)
I'll try my photo bucket account.
Thanks guys.
Photobucket is great, but just note that they have a bandwidth limit, and in order to be eligible for the FOTM "competitions" a picture of your fly accompanied by the recipe for the pattern must be uploaded to the FOTM gallery for the month of the competition you're entering.
Nonetheless, I'd love to see the fly that you've tied.
Check the dimensions of your photo to make sure that it's less than 2400x2400. If you need to reduce the size of your file, then you can always use paint to shrink the image. Just follow these instructions:
1.) Load the image into paint;
2.) Select "Image" from the drop down menus at the top;
3.) Click on "Stretch/Skew";
4.) Resize the image based on its original size to something smaller than 2400x2400. (eg. for 2400x2400, enter 50% into the horizontal and vertical categories); then
5.) Reattempt the upload.
Hope that helps, and hope to see your fly up here.
I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager - I usually touch up my photos, crop them and then re-size them all in a couple steps. The program is pretty intuitive if you are familiar with Microsoft products.
I think it came installed with my computer a couple years ago...it's probably on your computer already unless you run a Mac, and then you probably have something better![]()
