I've done my share of river drifting and in my opinion, a solo float on any moving water is a bad idea. S%#t can go sideways faster than you can imagine, and having a second pair of eyes and hands can mean the difference between a happy outcome and one that is not so much. . No fish is worth the risk.

p.s. I have done a shuttle service on the Bow, and I know there are guides who will do one on the Elk in Fernie. Drop your car, leave the keys on your tire and $40 in the ash tray and they will pick up your vehicle and deliver it to your specified take out point. Check with the taxi service and see if they will work something out. (but still, don't do a solo trip)

Never solo float, if u can help it and if u do, walk in the dangerous parts. I have a buddy that goes with me. We take a mountain bike with us and he rides it back to get the vehicle. Never go down river backwards and stay well away from sweepers. My buddy and I have been doing it for about ten years never had a problem but then we both grew up on rivers which helps understand the water dynamics alot. Please find a buddy to go with.

Good advice guys - confirmed a gut feeling I had on the solo drift - not worth the risk. I'll have to wait till fall before my fishing partner is back before any attempts.

I do like the bike idea though!

You can always ask around here and BCFR and try and dig up a partner or 2.
