    Default August Fotm?

Just wondering why the August fotm thread for bombers is closed? Not enough interest? I don't mind competing alone

You'll be getting competition from me if it reopens.

I'm going to unveil "The Intern".

Yes, no one was interested so, I will give one more try next month. Its a lot of time involved to keep something like this going every month, which I have no problem with but if no one is going to participate I can put that energy in another direction. A big thanks to Snowbee and Nile Creek for donating these great prizes.

That's a bummer, I'd been racking my brains the last 15/16 days. Plus I already had a name chosen, "Bombanid" which I honestly think should've netted me the prize by itself

ah well, do you need my address to send the prizes to?

    (totally not being serious, but...)

Keep that one close by cause I will be doing it again. The line that was to be given away was specifically for fishing Chironomids, we will try it again in the future.

I tied up som chronomids for it but i ddnt sublmit becuase i dont know what a bomber is. I got it but i dont know if it gets into the bomber class is the only prob. I just looks like your regular ole chronomid only tied my style. ( iv never even tied chrons before ) I even went out and bought new hooks for it. I looked bombers up on the net. what i gathered is there big deer clipped looking things with hackles around them. opposit to a chronimid. I dont know what the bomber is suposed to represent. CHronomids are those little wiggly things in the water that turn into mosquitos if im not mistaken. I was interested I just wanted to see a submisison first so I hav an idea what to throw in there. would a bomber chron be a chron tied with deer hair? that floats? ( i tied som of them to) Im just not sure what its supposed to look like.
    August aint over yet lol

Sometimes we forget that not everyone knows what a bomber is. Bombers are simply big chironomids that, unlike the standard, are on a two year life cycle and, therefore, bigger...much bigger. Best represented on 3 x-long hooks in size 10 to 6.

For the record, chironomids don't hatch into mosquitoes but, rather, are in the same genus, "diptera" (Latin for two wings). Once emerged to the adult stage, they look like mosquitoes but minus the stinger. Hope this helps somewhat.

I'm lamenting the lack of interest big time. I know what your basic bomber looks like but I was really looking forward to seeing what other people were tying and what patterns they have success with.

Bigger hooks mean more materials can be put on without crowding or adding bulk. More accurate representations can be made.

Likewise, you can also just keep your pattern as simple as a normal chironomid.
