I fish a clear intermediate for 95% of all my beach/shallow water fishing. My favorite is Airflo's coldwater striper line. Same as I use here in New England for Stripers, Blues, Bonito & False Albacore. But that's just my opinion -- your mileage may vary.

    Default Another Fly Line

    Hey,

I'm looking for a new 8wt fly line for beach fishing for salmon as i already have a Cortland sink tip 1in per second fly line, but need another and am not too sure what to get. I'm fishing on the beaches for the most part for pinks and coho if that helps,

    Thanks,
    Clayton

Rio Gold, floater, hands down. The sink-tip you possess is sufficient as a secondary line in current. The floater is all I use for similar fishing and the Gold has been a great performer.

I cast the rio gold once and was really impressed with it. Debating picking one up for my 5 and 6 wt rods.

I have a Rio Gold as my primary floating line and use it with a poly-tip when fishing for pinks. A great line, easy to clean and floats high in the water.
Fly fishing is not only a method to catch fish, but a state of mind.

A floater and a clear sink tip are the lines I use for beach fishing, with the floater seeing most of the use.

if you dont have a full float already i would go with what everyone else suggest....but if you do i would suggest a S/A full clear interemediate sink.....works wonders when pink fishing...i noticed a difference when fishing a full float to a clear intermed.....alot more stealth and was getting a ton more hits...

My 8wt line setup is this: Rio Versitip system...covers all river fishing plus comes with clear tip for the beaches, full float, and a full clear intermed...ususally fish the full clear on the beaches but sometimes switch to the full floater if it looks like they are taking closer to the surface.

Well I'm a bit different that most of you folks...my favorite line off the beaches has been the Snowbee Two Colour flaoting Line for Coho and the Snowbee Buzzer line for Pinks...but for the past two seasons I have been using the Beulah Elixir lines with a clear intemediate Poly tip attached and all I have to say is that it or that system has helped many people get into the fish more quickly and more easily. It is a shooting head system that not only gets you the distance but allows you to fish very effectively...ability to change poly tips with out creating difficulties in casting is the key. And of course great River lines..
I recommend a 245 grain Switch line for single hand rods from 6wt to 9wt...
and we all know that distance is the key to success many times off the beaches...we are typically only casting flies that are small and light weight...
