It doesn't really matter what lake you are fishing this time of year, the pattern of choice is most likely chironomid. Leeches are a strong back-up and other attracters are good to have (half-backs, careys, tom thumbs).

I am planning to go to one of these lakes this weekend for the first time and i am wondering if anyone could give me some hints on what i should expect. What kind of flies should i have to cover the main hatches around this time of year? Is it possible to hike a car topper into to vincent or should i stick with a float tube?

What chironomid selection would cover the baisics? I have began to get a handle of fishing with chironies this year but my selection is limited. What are more common colours? Do colours even matter, i was told as long as the size is similar that colour is not an issue? I have begun a quest to catch a trout over the 3-4 pound range as my previous years have been filled with uncountable amounts of 1 pound trout and I have a desire to seek out bigger trout in some new waters. Thanks for your help.

for vinson its a two man job to get your cartopper to the water . the best chronies are usually brown then green . colour is absolutely important fisher sometimes the rib is crucial to go with the right color body. start with a stripped peacock size 14 (brown with claret rib)I'd bet thats all youll need. GO GET EM

The trip was successful. I first went to Vinson on friday evening but got skunked. Then Saturday morning I got a hit on a snowcone but if got lose after a few seconds. It was slow until 12 and then I was able hook 5 with two being just over 2 pounds. I decided to move to buck lake in the afternoon and hooked a couple more including the biggest fish of the trip which was just shy of 3 pounds. Both lakes were fishing slower then usual but some action was still to be had.
