There is no middle ground at Stump in the spring. You either fish at the south end or the north end and my preference for April is the north end in the bay closest to the highway. Fishing leeches under indicators suspended over the weeds is absolutely lethal! Usually by the end of May that bay is choked out and can't be fished.
john, i don't quite follow you. are you saying there's no point trying to fish the open water in the middle of the lake? the north end seemed to be a little closer to icing off than the south iirc.

There's always a point to fishing but the lack of shoal water from the roadside in is a little sparse. I prefer to wait until the ice is off at the north end.the one between merritt and kamloops next to highway 5A. it's the only one i know of. is there another one?

ah. gotcha. good to know.![]()
[QUOTE=Ruger;22434]drove past stump lake yesterday. it's about 70% iced off. just the ends have ice. the bulk of the ice in the middle is gone. definitely possible to get a boat in from what i saw.[/QUO
what lake were you looking at??? i drove by stump today and its 98% iced over . the north end has a tiny open spot, about enough for 2 belly boats.

Drove by stump yesterday, its 95% iced on, just a small portion at the south end is off. There is about 2 feet of water all around the lake between the shore and the ice.
Thanks for the up-date as us guys on the Island have no idea of how the thaw is going!
