Default I have installed rio scagit head 575 gr

At first i wanted to stick to the long belly line and just shoot as it is without having to strip etc but I always like to try new systems and ideas so I got this 575 gr RIO Head and added Airflo Miracle Braid running line.

I am only posting this thread to express my amazement with this running line. It does not have memory at all. Shoots like there is no tomorrow. You can hold it or leave or place it in a shooting basket it does one and the same thing. Flies for ever. I am so happy with this line. I am going to install it into every major Fly rod weight I am using (from 6 to 11) this is the only thing (for me) that performs as well as that Rio OUTBOUND. Man that is some line too.
However there are different Miracle Braids , there is I think non braided one that you have to stretch before the start of fishing otherwise there are some serious issues. This one is like a thin rope with no memory and really usable. So be careful if you are getting another coil. Also this one was I think 8 bucks in states somewhere. I am trying to remember where did I get it I am going to buy the rest of the stock if I find it. :-))))

I am sure you have seen both. Maybe somebody can throw some more light here.

As for the Rio head. I throw it good, I do, but I still have to find the way to tighten that loop and prevent that the head hits the water first i.e before the fly. I look at the "D" loop, I follow the "splash and go", I do not rush, I have enough experience to see if the rod has loaded or not, and i have to make sure that the fighting butt is always at my tummy and rod tip is either to the left or right of me.
I also mix a little "Underhand" and "traditional" but I have noticed that if I don't think much or "just don't care" that line flies and drops on the other bank and then I have to ask people to untangle it and return it to me by mail from there :-)))))

I must say thank you James I went little heavier and it is good.

I have found that when im tossing Skagit lines that i want like 80% bottom hand(underhand) and about 20%(or less) top hand, this seems to be perfect for my casting style and works good for my dad also it seems.

Are you doing waterborne casts with this line or airborne casts ? I find the airborne ones dont lend themselves that great to Skagit heads, they work but dont seem to tighten up like they would with longer bellies and in turn dont shoot as far.

We should hit the water sometime AL, even though im pretty sure im done for steelies this year now LOL but im going to be trying to get some red springs on my switch rod come July/August.

Have you taken a look at Skagitmaster ?? this video helps out alot with casting Skagit lines i have only looked briefly at my copy so far though

With regards to your skagit casting, remember when using the skagit you are using the sinktip to anchor your cast (waterborne) and then you let it fly. If you are doing touch
and go, sounds like you are pulling your anchor but still able to execute the cast. Just wondering what type of rod your using, length and model, and the length of sink tip you are using?

Hey James, I have not seen that Video, I looked at Dana Sturn in the Rio's dvd and they all do it with just a reasonable length of line out. What I would like to see is 80-90 feet of line stripped out and then sent off either in traditional or Underhand manner.
I forgot to mention that I found good deal on Loop 9wt and will be using that rod for summer salmon and steelies. They require 525 gr on this rod but 575 should load it just fine. I have a good Alvey trolling reel that takes 600 meters of 14 lb test so I loaded it with 100 meters of backing, added airflo miracle braid and 575 gr scagit head.
I also instaled the 2.5 ft cheeter(or whatwever the spelling is) , versi spey leader 10 feet that sinks 3.6 inches/sec and just an arm length of 15 lb mono. worked just fine. I love spey. But I am also nostalgic about singlehand and if I go to Van Island as I plan I willtake my 9 wt singlehand and 9 wt Loop yellow. That is such a nice combo. Mornings for singlehand (no wind etc)and afternoons spey. Ha life is good.
I can hit Vedder on Thursday or Friday this week if you arefree wouldbe great to see you and enjoy the river. Let me know ok?
