Hello All,
I am taking a vacation to Ucluelet in early April. I have never fished the Island, and have only fished for steelhead on the Trinity River in California. Is there decent fly-fishing in the area for steel or trout? I may only have a narrow window of 1 or 2 days to fish and I am a devout walk & wade dry fly fisherman, but am willing to swing wets/nymphs or chuck streamers. I am trying to gather as much information as I can. My understanding is that the water temperature & precipitation levels plays a huge part in the fish activity. Any tips on equipment, technique or locations would be much appreciated.

"I am haunted by waters."
I did the same trip there last year. But i was salmon fishing. On the road/hwy into Ucluelet/Tofino before you get to the fork in the road there is a river that runs with the hwy....... however i have never fished it and wouldnt know if it is productive. I would recommend calling Clayoquot Ventures (Jason 250-725-2700) in Tofino and speaking with them for some advice on where to fish freshwater; they are a guide/tackle shop .....there isnt much freshwater fishing near the towns its more back on the hwy in from what i gathered....good luck
Yep, the Kennedy River runs right by the highway. I don't know what the fishing is like as I've never dipped a line in the water there. There are also all kinds of smaller creeks near Ukee that might be worth exploring. I'd also be keen to explore fishing from some the beaches around there as there are cutthroat to be had.
The Kennedy river is, by all accounts, pretty sterile and thus devoid of much in the way of resident fish. The lake is supposed to be good for cutties at times.
it will allow you to find out what fish are available by way of its map-based online query system
Very slick. If you do not know where it is use google.ca
Kennedy River is almost void of fish except below the impairment(Falls) a short distance above the lake...if you can fish below the falls there are some very nice fish there to be had...Fish the mouth of Tofino Creek and if you can find your way to the Indian River make sure you tell people you found it by accident...it is a very good Cuttie River with BIG Sea Runs...If you want to spend some $$ JAy will take you up the Meagan River for Cutties and Steelhead, although they will be Spawning right about now...The Taylor River that runs parallel to the highway just after Sproat Lake has some very big Cutties coming in out of the lake in April thru June...you might even get into some Steelhead...but it is much closer to Port Alberni about 80 km back.Hello All,
