    Default Poll: Indicator or naked

Since still water season is upon us and alot of us chronie fish i was wondering how many fish naked or use and indicator. I myself fished an indicator when i first started chronie fishing but over the years have gotten to enjoy fishing naked alot more. I far enjoy the pull of the fish then watching the bobber go under.

Naked if the fishing is fast but indicator if it is tough and the takes are subtle.

if u are going to use an indicator get phil rowley's quick release indicator... my gf uses them and they work awesome.
the peg pops off when u get a hook up so u don't have to worry about taking the peg out.... there are cheaper copies of this indicator but they are inferior.

The tough part is finding water that is far enough away from everyone else so that no one gets their panties in a knot just because you like to fish
    O' natural.
Oh ya this is about indicators, sorry, freudian slip.
I prefer to fish naked if possible.
The indicator is just so float fishing.
Don't get me wrong, I use em occasionally.
Just remember that if you are fishing " Fly Fishing Only " waters you cannot use an indicator.
    " Artificial fly only " is O.K.
In the definition of fly fishing in BC it say's,
" No external weights or floats " or something to that effect.
But I must say, there are many situations where they just plain kick butt.

I like the indicators as the takes are visual, It closer to dry fly fishing than natural which is more like nymphing. If there is a lot of waves I go natural to get a better drift and not as much action with the chroni. Both have there place and both are fun. I try to use the two color indicators as on the rare occcasion I flub a cast and the line tangles on the indicator, often the bottom color is inverted toward you giving you a clue that there is a problem. With the ultra slow retrieves you can be fishing 6 inches under the indicator for a long time.

I fish both but prefer the naked truth, particularly in water 20+ ft. High elevation lakes are exposed to constant wind fluctuation, especially in the early season, ( ie; wind speed/ direction ) anything from a ripple to a whitecap. Strike indicators in these conditions can give an undesirable angle to the dangle and an unnatural presentation. If watching your " bobber " with your rod stationary is your thing, then power to you. Many anglers do well with this method. Personally, I hold my rod at all times, ( not just for pleasure ) because I like to work the fly the whole time. There are times that the sit and wait method yeilds steady action, but for me, I like the sudden, sometimes subtle feel of resistence during the painfully slow retrieve.

i find the poll results on the indicator interesting... so far i have been out fishing on lakes basically almost every week.. and from what i see on the water and what the poll says is way off...

I have only seen one other person fishing without an indicator on all the days i have fished this year so far. The ratio i see is more like 99percent indicator and 1 percent naked on the lakes i have fished so far this year and i have put in a good 20 days on the water.
