Unfortunately, I have just about lost my will to steelhead. I had some early success, then I spent 15 days on the river last year- mostly on upper Van Isle- Salmon, nimpkish, quatse etc and a few days on the Vedder. In 15 FULL days, I hooked one, lasted about 8 seconds til it was gone. I realize you need to put your time in etc etc blah blah, but really? That much time is too much for me. I enjoyed just about every one of those days, but I can chase trout and get some success and enjoy the day more.
Having said that I spent a few hours on the Vedder today (1st time there this year) and I enjoyed it. Needless to say, no luck. It is always the gear guys winning the battle. But i'll keep trying, just maybe with a bit less enthusiasm than before.
Good luck to you all, you will need it!
Thought I would try to keep you UP

So far what I like most about steelheading is the anticipation and the temptation. The flytying is a lot more colourful than for regular trout as well.
Plus steelhead tend not to live in ugly places, as long as the damn jet-boats aren't on the river. Perhaps I'll not fish the lower Stamp ever again...but there are so many other places!
I would agree with you on that! Expecially on the stamp part. Don't get me wrong I know that the Stamp is a very productive steelhead river, I just don't thinks its the best for people interested in flyfishing for steelhead. I am by far an expert on the subject but have had soo much more fun and success hiking into smaller creeks and rivers that allow for better fly casting and presentation.
Thanks Salar, its always good to see some pictures to get some motivation back!
Maybe i'll see you next week- i'm coming over to the rock. What hours are you open at this time of year?

I've been keeping busy! Heading over to the Island first ferry Wed morning, probably until last ferry friday. Hoping to take at least one full day to fish and relax- work has been crazy, so i need it! Not sure what to expect from river levels- If it rained half as much over there as it has on the mainland, there must be a decent bomp in flow levels. Planning on heading north, check out a few rivers and their levels on the way up, and see whats happening!
I'll hit the flow as hard as i can, but i'll expect nothing out of it! That way I can never be disappointed! Bloody steelhead! Broke my 3wt, so I can't go for trout til its fixed. Its getting late in the season, but Steelhead it is!
Hopefully we will get a chance to catch up!
Cheers

Sweet, i'll pop by on wednesday morning! Always good to get some of your tube fly products! I've given up on jungle cock for the most part, with the exception of some classics. Small, dark heavy steelie flies are given to the river way too much for jungle cock! Someone needs to start a jungle cock farm...
See you wednesday.
