    Default Line type/fly size.

When pursuing winter steelhead, i was wondering if most of you guys are using skagit heads with big flies or do you use skagit heads with smaller, more traditional flies and hairwings. OR do you use shorthead spey lines and smaller flies(by smaller i mean no lead eyes and maybe 2-4 inches long such as GP's, maraboo's etc).
i am trying to streamline my approach and focus of on style of casting, rather than jumping back and forth between the styles.

    thanx for any input,
    Brian

I have been fishing strictly Skagit heads this year, as it allows me to fish a variety of flies...I want the line to cast a big head rather than worry about the fly....when I know I am only fishing lighter heads or floating line then I run my GPS line... which is a dream to cast....

So, TNT, what are you using for tips? do you use t-11,t-14 etc or the pre-maid 15' tips like riio's type 3,6 etc.?

I fished my Delta all season last year. this year im fishing a Skagit line. for casting enjoyment i like the Delta better, for fishing purposes i like the skagit better because its easier turn over T14 and heavy flies.

Brian - I just use different lengths of T14 depending on depth, this way i only carry 3 tips (4' 8' 12') I really like this with a skagit line and no im never dragging the bottom. Only lost two flies so far to the same damn log !!

No one out there fishing a skandi? I've been thinking of getting away from skagit in favour of skandi + poly tip. While I wont be able to heave as massive a fy, I imagine that it's much nicer to cast, but can still get down if a heavy tip is used, plus many skandi type lines are stout enough to toss all but the heaviest flies or tips.

That being said, I've not put in any time with a skandi, just got some casts in on a few different but sweet setups this fall.
