    Default Anti Static Bag Issues

    Hi all,

Ive been tying some anti static bag chronies and have noticed that the underbody color is not coming through the anti static bag as i had originally thought. They look silver with a copper rib.....just wondering if this is normal?

i tied one with a bronze underbody and one with a copper underbody...the copper shows up a little better but nothing too noticeable.

    Thanks

the problem with anit static bag is what type of bag you recieve. what you want is the very translucent stuff so that colours show through but it still gets a shine from the bag itself. I have some here that has a kind of silver underside which makes it to dark for colours to show through all that well and this is why i dont use it often. I have asked at a bunch of places and noone has had the more clear stuff so far.

just go to any computer place or a place that sells computer parts (future shop, best buy, etc.) they wont charge you for a bag. You could try asking if they have different ones and if you could have one of each kind/colouring. I say this because i have one that has a blue tinge to it also which i havent even bothered to use yet LOL

one thing thats funny is the look they will give you LOL i always get looked at weird for asking for old bags

    Zugger,

I actually have both and I prefer the more transluscent one for obvious reasons. I can look at what I have and send you a bit but, be warned, I gotta tie a mess up for that weird dude in Merritt!

24_7F (sounds like the new wave of triploids),

If you haven't tried the anti static with the blue tinge yet, oh boy, get on it!

In the chironomid age before the anti-static bags I was tying with that steel grey flashabou which was rather blue-ish and in one of my chats with the then biologist Brian Chan, I explained that it was one of my poorest commercial sellers and his response was, "well it's their loss then, isn't it?"

how are you guys using the antistatic bags? Ive heard of using them, and i have some at home, but i wasn't sure how to actually use them. i cut it into strips and wrapped it around the hook, but i dont know if thats the actual way youre supposed to use them.

Sounds about right to me. Thin strips wrap better.

its funny you say that Prof. the gunmetal is also my go to when im using Chromies. second one to try if that isnt working (which doesnt happen often) is one thats done with silver holo tinsel and blood rib, black bead and antron gills out the top. Did i mention that every pattern using a red rib i use the blood ribbing material, I have found it to be superior to just wire ribbing and it lays flat so it looks more like part of the fly after its clear coated.

John k - the reason i havent used the bags is that i just havent found i needed to yet but they are there incase. My tying kit is always with me on lake trips, even day trips !!
