Default scott LS2 vs sage VT2

I'm looking at these two rods and don't know what would be better.
there both around the 300 mark and come with a skagit 550 grain line. I'm a total beginner a spey fishing. both are 8wt 14'' that i would be using for steelheading on the vedder.
    any imput would be appreciated.

I had the chance to take that exact Sage model out for a test drive a while ago, while getting repairs done on another rod. Spent the day on the Chek. Thought it was a nice rod. Action was clean and crisp. Had a old 10wt double taper line with a 10ft type 8 tip on it, and it did a good job. The Chek is a small stream, so the casts were way on the short side, but if you had the river distance, it seemed to be up to it. The only fish I got that day was a pretty hefty dolly, that put a good bend in the rod. Overall, I liked it. Very pricey from what I remember, would have no complaints getting one for a good deal.

you cant go wrong with either rod thats for sure. I know a couple guys that have VT2's and i also know some with the LS2's its all about preference to some. some dont like the blue blank of the VT rods so they choose something else I personally like the Scott rods better then alot of the Sages going however i do like the Zaxis line of Sage

Both are decent sticks but personally I would purchase lean towards the Sage their warranty is constant and the company is very strong!! In todays economy you never know what could happen in the fishing world! I have many different rods and I have always been happy with my Sages!!

I'm with Rick regarding warranties. At the moment I own 3 different Sage double handers, and I wouldn't part with my VT2 9144. Outside of the color, much like the 9144 I've heard good things about the lighter models...and yes I do like the color....

There is a big buzz going on about that new Sage TCX line of Spey rods particularly in 7 wt.

Everybody who sells this line starts their story with the same sales pitch: "what a stick" what 'n action", The best that market has ever offered in 2 handers" etc...

They say that it is extremely light and extremely fast. I guess the hype is exactly there where the price of it is. People sell it for average $850.00 US

I red on Flyfishusa.com a report from a fishing trip on a steelhead when they first tested that rod. And being as silly as I am ever since I have dreams about that rod. I am planning to sell all the extra gear I have I want that rod :-)))) what can I do. Once they plant the bug in my mind they have me for ever.
Well in the meantime someG-Loomis and Fenwicks are gonna go for 2/3rds of original price, and some centerpin rods too and a reel and on and on and on....

    Default Reel for VT2

I am also looking into buying a VT2 but in a 9 weight. What reel did you end up paring with yours and can anyone recommend one that isn't too expensive but still good value for the price? Obviously i'd love an islander, but i'm a student so that might be a bit of a stretch

I will tell you what I did.
Hardy because of some patent infringement had to get rid of their Uniqua line of reels. I grabed #5 and a spare spool for amazing price not even 150.

I see that there are still some #4s and so on. You can not make mistake with this one. It is smooth and light and takes so much backing. Sellers are in US though but price is still more than good.
Try Fishwest.com and Flydepot.com no disappointment there. service and shipping FIRST CLASS.
I looked everywhere locally but no luck.
    Ok that is my story.
