    Default Sun & Sand

So as I'm listening to the rain pound outside AGAIN, my mind has turned to escapes to places sunnier and warmer. I think it's time to look at some air-fares to a place not so damp and cold. Anyone out there cashing in some airmiles or returning their empties for a winter escape? If resources are low, where would your dream destination be? In the mean time, I think I'll crank up the fireplace, put some suntan lotion on and have half a dozen pina colotas to shake off the "dreary" that has been hanging on the coast for far too long.......

Faced with similar thoughts recently and a wife reminding me we haven't done such a vaction in quite a while, it appears we are going to Me-hee-ko late January. Started booking a week ago its pretty much all figured out now.

We're flying to Puerto Vallarto then hopping a "luxury bus" to a small village near Manzanillo. I'm told best to splurge another 20 bucks for the "luxury bus" unless you don't mind chickens on your lap. lol. Scooped tickets from Comox on line for less than 6 bills for the two of us one way, a little more return going through Calgary. There are good deals out there right now.

SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) really wanted a nice room so she splurged we're in for about a hundred a night in a beach side suite. Looks really nice, full kitchen all the bells and whistles. I on the other hand was more interested to see rooms that would be just fine for me, on the beach for like 30 bucks.

I'm really looking forward to the fishing opportunities. There's a lot of info on the net about beach/surf fishing. Plus where we're going there's local dudes with little pangas that will take you inshore fishing for cheap, a great way to fly fish it appears.

I've got a buddy who's been to this region before and he's done some extended trips for cheap, cheap, cheap. 20 bucks a night for a clean little room type of deal.

Bottom line, if your on a budget don't go where the gringos go, go where the Mexicans go for thier holidays. Lots of little places that aren't ruined yet. ..

Aaaah! Nice warm sand between your toes! I've been that way a couple of times myself. Never done any fishing though, Mexican vacations are dictated by the Mrs. Just as well, lots of margaritas to be had! Sounds awesome. I'm all jealous now!

Apparently there is excellent sailfishing off Manzanillo - it's one of many places that claim to be the Sailfish capital of the world.
I took a charter from Club Med near Manzanillo many years ago and we were able to get into a 7+ footer that jumped 24 times.
