    Default Parklands

Oh, you had to post those, didn't you? Do you live in the area? For the past week I've been researching the lakes there as I'm planning a June trip. Another member lives in the parklands area and has been a wealth of information. Planning on going for a week so I have to choose which lakes to fish as there are too many to fit into 7 days. Definitely interested in "Tiger Trout at Twin Lake" and Patterson and Tokaryk. Besides that my options are open. Have been on www.flippr.ca and got a little info from there.

NEBC set me a map of a section of the area and I like the proximity of Patterson and Tokaryk. Am leaning towards staying at Childs Lake Lodge and am just wondering how close it is to those two lakes?

Thanks for posting, I have a feeling it's going to be a very long winter!

Childs Lake is about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive to Tokaryk/Patterson. Found a map on google, tokaryk/patterson are about 6 km past Oakburn, but if you have a tent, there's camping at Patterson and Tokaryk is really about a 5 minute car ride from it. I haven't been to Twin yet but am planning a trip for the spring when I have more time off work. I've heard great things about Gull and Perch Lake as well.

You have to love these lakes. Very nice trout you and Robert got into on Tokaruk . Once the aerator is up and running this lake should be a world class fisherie for a long time. Having two such lakes (Patterson and Tokaruk) only one mile apart provides one with some unbelievable opportunities to experience BIG trout. It will also help spread the pressure abit and there will be pressure on these lakes. At the moment , Patterson is a tougher nut to crack than Tokaruk. Just make sure you hang onto your rod.

So, what have you guys heard about E. Blue? I heard a story about a 30" brookie that has been caught and released a couple times.

News to me John. E.Blue now is bows, lakers, splake, and perch mostly. It did have brookies in the past and there still may be some there. They haven't been stocked for some time now. The master angler programme does record a 21" brookie being caught in 04. East Blue does hold the Manitoba rainbow trout record. Alot of big bows there. Barbe has produced 30" brookies...barbe is north of The Pas.

I didn't realize that Manitoba had a program like this going. The town of Roblin, which has some lakes in the Flippr project, is the site of the 2010 Canadian Nation FF Championships. I wonder how these lakes compare to say...Roche, and what the c-mid hatches are like?

Chironomid hatches can reach very large proportions here. However,I don't think they make up as large a part of the food print here as they do in your mountain lakes.Chironomid techniques are a sometimes thing here, since there are other vey productive methods to use. However chironomids are definitely the menu at times.

Pardon me for breaking in here. I am curious as to your southern Manitoba favourite fall and early spring flies for lakes if you do not start with Chironomid larvae or pupal stages. I normally begin with leeches for most lakes in BC early in the spring. Do you tend more toward leeches, water boatmen, damsel and mayfly nymphs then? If leeches are used a lot, what styles and color patterns?
