Default The Powderkeg Fishing Report Sept. 15th 2009

Fishing Report for September 15nd 2009

The fishing is just getting better and better. Our finny friends are throwing the feedbag on in anticipation of a long winter under the ice.

Red lake was producing some nice Brookies Far Alyson and her mom and dad. Flies of choice were small leeches and dragons. Worms were also good hanging under a bobber. Way to go Aly.

Gordon lake gave up a 6 pound rainbow the other day. The lucky angler was a little secretive about the fly. It’s good to share!

It is the time of the Boatman. The little buggers are flying and diving and the rainbows are eating em’ up. Fun, fun, fun. You might have to up your tippet size a bit as they strike like a junkyard dog on a T-bone steak. Good catches on Boatman have been reported all over the area.

I managed to meet a good friend for a days fishing on the Fraser down around Chilliwack on Sunday. We had a good day. The pinks were quite co-operative and we hooked many. I performed long line releases on most of mine. The flies most liked were Al’s Notte Pink Wiggler and a little two tone pink rabbit fly I tie up. That was the one the Coho had for lunch.

The sturgeon fishing on the upper and lower Fraser is excellent right now.

Last reports coming in say the Jack Spring fishing on the Thompson is still excellent as well.

I have to get out more.

And as always till next week, keep your tip up.

Fred, when I lived there it amazed me how secretive guys were about fly patterns like there was a shortage of fish but he was willing to divulge the lake. Gordon is a spot I never mentioned any louder than a whisper and another jewel on Chataway Mountain that got very little pressure..............until Google Earth became a widely used tool. I've hooked fish in that lake that are still running.........

Anyone who has not had a good day of fishing during boatman season is sure missing an awesome adventure. Fish hitting like freight trains makes 7 lb. fluorocarbon feel like 8/0 tying thread. Last year I had two days that is the stuff dreams are made of. Lost 13 floating boatman patterns in two days. Island Lake should be red hot for the next two weeks or so.

Wow that sounds awesome... tell me, what kind of lakes have a good boatman hatch at the end of the season?
